Laboratories
Scientific diving
BACEMARE scientific diving lab has been developed and organised to support and facilitate research projects that require underwater investigation and observation.
In the scientific diving lab, the researchers have access to a range of tools and technologies, such as underwater cameras, sonar systems, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and other sensors. These tools help scientists gather data about underwater environments and organisms in a non-invasive manner, allowing them to conduct experiments and make observations that would be impossible to obtain through surface-level or remote sensing methods.
Marine remote sensing
BACEMARE marine remote sensing lab has been developed to support research that uses remote sensing techniques to study oceanography, marine biology, geology, and other related fields.
In the marine remote sensing lab, the researchers have access to a range of instruments and software tools for collecting, processing, and analyzing remote sensing data. These facilities are important for understanding the complex dynamics of the ocean and its ecosystems, as well as for monitoring changes in ocean conditions over time, such as sea level rise, ocean acidification, and changes in marine biodiversity.
Physical & Chemical Oceanography
BACEMARE physical and chemical oceanography lab has been developed to support research that investigates the physical and chemical properties of the ocean, providing scientific advice on how to maintain a healthy and sustainable marine environment; generate benefits for the nation; protect the marine ecosystem from climate change.
The researchers have access to a range of instruments and equipment for collecting and analyzing oceanographic data. They also use numerical models and computer simulations to study the complex interactions between oceanic and atmospheric systems and to enlighten the community and stakeholders through scientific publications, outreach activities and educational programs.
